7th National Social Science Congress (May 29-31, 2013)

Implications of inter-generational issues give us hindsights and foresights on varied economic, political and socio-cultural issues. Presentations of recent researches gave different views on past generations, baby boomers, and "millenials" culture or the culture of the present day generation. More important was the networking shared by the social scientists all over the Philippines, sharing a passion for the science of human behavior. Thus giving recommended solutions to live a more-responsive-to-society kind if life.

Public Management for Development

Revisiting the Land of Chang (elephants) after five years gave me a sense of HOPE that yes! the Philippines can fast track its development through public management.  Thailand, known as Siam in the past, is one of the countries in Asia that was not colonized by the Padre Damaso, the Honda Boys nor G.I. Joe like the Philippines.  Nonetheless, it is a developing nation.  Unlike the Philippines, it boasts of a faster rate of increase in government revenues and raised national income.

GENDER ROLES

Socialization or enculturation is the process by which people acquire skills, learn rules and internalize the values of society.  This includes both explicit instruction and modeling by example.  From the person's perspective, socialization is the process of entering the human group-being inducted into the secrets of society.
Socialization is the process in which sheer behavior is transformed to conduct.  the human person becomes self aware and able to guide his conduct.  The set of behavioral characteristics that every society considers appropriate to the sexes is a cultural construct known as GENDER. Gender identity is one's feeling of being male or female.

GENDER STRATIFICATION

Defeminization in Household Management

Defeminization in Household Management

Social roles in society are learned through socialization. Expected behavior of male and female are initially learned in the family.  Have women's roles in the home changed in terms of participation in the economic decision making for the home? Are the fathers in the home sharing in household chores and childcaring?

LOCAL GOVERNMENT ISSUES

Philippine local governance can be traced to the early period of precolonial era in the Philippines.  The Sultan. rajahs and Datus in the different villages had economic, political and socio-cultural power and authority.  the elders had certain powers as well.  Many issues have been tackled from that period to the present.  In the 21st century, where the Philippines developed its Local Government Code in 1991, there are socio-economic as well as political issues and problems that beset its local government units.  To name a few:
political dynasties ; political parties  ;  economic issue of the One Town One Product program;  Local Taxation ;  Gender and Women Issues;  RH Bill ;  e-governance;  Information Technology and Communication Technologies;  Environment issues (Mining in Palawan);  Waste disposal problems;  and Ecotourism
Below are some discussions regarding the issues:
